HISTORY
Playing cards have always been a part of my life. I was always around them, collecting them, using them. As a child I would play card games with my family, and as a teenager I performed card magic in bars and clubs. As a young adult, it was Blackjack and then Poker at the local casino. I read every theory book there was, studied for hours, ran hands through odds calculators, and then spent all night from 8pm til 6am playing Poker at the local Grosvenor - I would then pick one or two spots from the session and go home and study them to iron weaknesses out of my game. I guess you could say I was a little obsessed...
DEVELOPMENT
Having a level of training and experience in both design/illustration and playing card games has left me with a unique perspective, a perspective that I try to infuse into every deck we create here at AHPC, so that intricate hand-drawn artwork is always tempered with classic functionality as a primary design goal, not an afterthought. While many other custom decks of art playing cards are muddy, over-complicated and all but unusable, our design philosophy has always been to create beautiful but practical decks of cards - they are after all meant to be, or at least capable of being used, not just looked at.
TOOLS OF THE TRADE
But there was still a project in me that I wanted to realise: a no-frills, hard-use deck of casino poker playing cards - to be judged not on its aesthetic merits, but on its performance at the table. In early 2025 I began consultation with a group of poker players to dial in the ultimate set of features for a serious poker set. PVC plastic stock with a matte card texture, large bold indices, a two-deck set with different colour backs rather than a single deck in a tuckbox... the list went on. This set of "perfect" features was crafted into our first ever PVC playing cards: Crown Series Poker. Our meticulous design was paired with an OEM that supplies casinos across Europe and Asia and produces one of the most famous brands of PVC playing cards on the market...

These cards came carefully packed in multiple layers of bubble wrap. Once opened it was clear that there was just as much, if not more love and care that went into the creation of these cards. They feel just like actual paper, but holds their shape extremely well even after countless shuffles. The designs of every court cards are beautiful and unique, not to mention the smooth vibrant colors on both the face and back of the cards. I’m very pleased with these cards!

I recently ordered some cards that did not arrive in the post as expected. I was able to fully explain the situation in which I felt listened to and provided with assurances that the issue would be looked into.
Alex maintained excellent communication throughout and the issue was resolved. Turns out the discrepancy was with Royal Mail and I now have my cards, which are in perfect condition.

These are really great cards! I initially bought three setups because the overall design was so nice. But impressed by the high quality of the cards, I ordered more. The plastic is very high quality, and the textured surface is quite thick, giving them a really nice feel when handling them.

Love the cards! The index is in that Goldilocks zone and the red ink is bright and vibrant. Cards are very flexible and they shuffle like butter. Don't sleep on these!
Absolutely brilliant poker setup. Thin stock easy to shuffle, unique court design, lack of strong plastic smell present in other brands of plastic cards (if you ever handled Copags you’ll know) and simple elegant box with gilded crown. What more you could possibly want.
